Riyadh (Debriefer) - Persistent fighting will lead to a grave humanitarian, environmental and economic disaster affecting every part in Yemen, the Yemeni Parliament Speaker warned on Sunday, especially if oil and gas facilities come under "Houthi terrorist acts".
The ongoing war in Marib "puts the UN credibility at trial," Sultan al-Barakani added at virtual meeting with the UN special envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, expressing hope that UN efforts would successfully put an end to this war, particularly with hundreds of people are daily victimized by the Houthi "war against residents and IDPs" in the northeastern governorate.
Mere talks on peace in Yemen, amid Houthi escalation, will not achieve sought results, since the group disdains statements deploring its acts, the Yemeni Speaker said.
The Yemeni government welcomes peace efforts, keenly seeks to end the Yemeni crisis, and positively reacts to all initiatives in this regard, including the Saudi plan, he added, accusing the Houthis of obdurately rejecting all the initiatives, reneging all the deals and undermining all the UN efforts aimed at peace.
The UN envoy said he discusses with all the warring parties how to stop the war in Marib and to protect residents and IDPs.
Aware of their resultant impacts, the UN rejects all the forms of Houthi military acts, Griffiths added, according to the Riyadh-based Saba.
Earlier on Sunday, government military sources said Houthi forces seized al-Kasara front at the western fringes of Marib city.
The Houthi advance came after fierce fighting that left 65 Houthi fighters killed in the last two days, the sources told AFP.
