SHABWA (Debriefer)--The internationally recognised government has deployed more military reinforcements to the line of contact with the Houthi group in Yemen's southeastern province of Shabwa.

The government and Houthi forces have been fighting in western parts of the province for days as the Houthis are seeking to advance towards the capital city, Ataq, the army's information centre said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, media reports said the Houthis have advanced in the district of Bayhan.

Tens of fighters from both sides were killed and injured in Today's battles, a military source said, adding that at least ten Houthi military vehicles, including three armoured vehicles, were destroyed.

The escalation coincided with UN and US diplomatic efforts to end the seven-year war in Yemen.

In the past two weeks, the UN and US envoys visited Saudi Arabia and Oman where they met with Yemeni, Houthi and GCC officials and discussed proposals to reach a comprehensive ceasefire.
