Shabwa (Debriefer) The Houthi forces seized the two districts of the Higher Baihan and Ein in the southern governorate of Shabwa, military and local sources said Tuesday.
The Houthis launched a massive attack from the central governorate of Baydha last week, leading to the capture of the two districts, military source said.
The Houthi main purpose is to circumvent Hareeb and use this district in Marib governorate as a new base to advance towards the oil-rich city of Marib, the source added, after the group failed in Sirwah and other western and southern districts.
According to local source, some tribesmen resisted the Houthi advance, but the forces mobilized by the latter were so huge to defeat.
Capture of Ein enabled the Houthi group to block the asphalt road linking Shabwa to Marib governorate.
The government-appointed director of Hareeb district security, Sheikh Nasser al-Qahati, was killed in the fighting, the source added.
Earlier on Tuesday, the government troops said tens of Houthi militants were killed or injured in battles seen by Shabwa.
Backed by public resistance, the national army is fighting fierce battles against the Houthis in western parts of Shabwa, the army-run media center said.
"Great military reinforcements arrived in the area to support the government troops at confrontation fronts," it added.
