RIYADH (Debriefer)--The Saudi-led coalition said it shot down an explosives-laden drone which was fired by the Houthi group from Yemen towards the Saudi province of Khamis on Friday.

It was the fifth drone fired towards Saudi Arabia in the past 24 hours.

Earlier today, the coalition said it intercepted four drones and one ballistic missile fired towards Saudi regions.

Escalated Houthi hostilities directed at civilians have been thwarted, it said in a statement carried by the Saudi press agency.

The coalition has been fighting the Iran-allied Houthi group in support of Yemen's internationally recognised government since March 2015.

Separately, the pro-government joint forces said they shot down a Houthi explosives-laden drone over the district of Al-Durayhimi in south of Hudaydah province. It was the third drone attack against these units this week.
