Iran statement that they are willing to help in bringing about a settlement for the crisis in Yemen is optimistic, the US president said.
The Iranian foreign minister, Mohamed JavadZarif told reporters at the United Nations Monday that Tehran was prepared to lend support for ending Yemen's war.
Yemen has been racked by a 4.5-year bloody conflictbetween the internationally-recognized Yemeni government's forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who ousted the government in 2014.
Asked about a statement from Iran's FM that the country would be willing to negotiate an end to the war in Yemen,President Donald Trump said he had not heard the statement but that it would be positive.
"What you've said now about Yemen appealed to me," US president told the reporter. "I haven't heard that [statement], but this is very positive."
The Iranian stance comes three days after the Iranian-backed Houthis had made an initiative to halt military operations against Saudi Arabia.
The Gulf region is witnessing a new escalation following attackson the Saudi Aramco oil facilities reduced the KSA's production to half, with the Houthi group in Yemen claiming responsibility.
Saudi Arabia and the United States accused Iran of the attack, but Tehrandenied.
Yemen conflict has triggered what the UN calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with most of the population in need for a type of humanitarian aid and immediate protection, including 14 million people risking famine and some 1.8 million children suffering malnutrition.
