Aden (Debriefer) - The Iranian-backed Houthi group and the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) are two sides of the same coin, advisor to the Yemeni information minister tweeted on Thursday.
The Houthis want national unity government but refuse to hand arms or join their militias into national army, Mukhtar al-Rahabi added, while the STC wants to partake in the government but also reject disarmament or involvement under official units.
"They are two sides of the same coin, and the Houthi doesn't differ from the STC," the Yemeni official argued.
Yemen has been racked by an armed conflict that broke out after the Houthis ousted the internationally-recognized government late in 2014.
On 26 April, the STC announced state of emergency and self-government in Aden and other southern provinces under its control, sparking another conflict in the south with the official government.
Last June, the Saudi-led coalition announced a mechanism to accelerate the application of Riyadh Agreement inked between the government and STC on 5 November 2019.
While the government sticks to the application of the pact's military section and STC troop withdrawal from Aden, the latter insists that a new government should be formed first.
