RIYADH (Debriefer)--Yemen's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday warned of a huge humanitarian cost due to continued Houthi military escalation in Marib province.

At a meeting with the US envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking, Foreign Minister Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak said the human bill will be very high, especially for civilians, if the Houthis continue their assault on the province hosting millions of IDPs.

Houthi attacks on displacement camps, using IDPs as human shields and mobilisation of fighters, including many children, represent flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, he said.

The Houthi militia is addicted to war and sending children to frontlines, implementing Iran's instructions to destabilise Yemen and the region, he said.

Dozens of civilians have been killed and hundreds of families displaced as a result of indiscriminate shelling by the militia during the past weeks in the provinces of Marib, Taiz and Hodeidah, he added.

He called on the international community to place real pressure on the militia to force it to stop violence and accept a peaceful solution based on the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the national dialog conference and the UN resolution 2216.

Lenderking reiterated his country's call on the Houthis to stop their military operation in Marib and all acts destabilising Yemen.

There is no military solution to the crisis in Yemen, he said, adding that only a comprehensive and fair political settlement can end the conflict.
