MARIB (Debriefer)--Yemen's internationally recognised government on Sunday appointed Brig. Gen. Salim Abdullah Al-Sayaghi as the chief of the Special Forces, a day after the former chief was killed in battles with the Houthis in the district of Serwah in west of Marib province.

Prior to this post, Al-Sayaghi worked as the security chief in Jawf and Sanaa provinces.

Before the war started in late 2014, he held several positions in the Police Academy and also worked as the security chief in the district of Al-Sabeen in the capital Sanaa.

Battles between government and Houthi forces have been raging for weeks in Marib amid international concerns the Houthi assault will deepen the humanitarian situation in the province hosting more than a million IDPs.
