RIYADH (Debriefer)--A Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said on Saturday it intercepted and destroyed two explosives-laden drones fired by the Houthi group towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The military spokesperson for the Iran-backed group Brig. Gen. Yahya Sarea said the drones, Samad-3, targeted important positions at the King Khalid Air Base in the Saudi province of Khamis Musheit.
It was the latest in a series of recent attacks against what the group said were sensitive military and economic installations in the Gulf country.
The coalition's spokesperson Col. Turki Al-Maliki said the drones were fired in a systemic and deliberate way to target civilians and civilian objects in Khamis Musheit and the province of Jizan.
At least eight Houthi drones have been shot down over Saudi territories in the past 24 hours, Al-Maliki said.
On Friday, the civil defence service in Khamis Musheit said a child and civilian were injured by shrapnel of a drone intercepted over the province, shortly after the Houthis said they fired eight drones, Samad-3 and Qasef-K2, against the air base and Abha international airport.
