Riyadh (Debriefer) - Saudi Arabia on Monday declared new peace initiative to stop fighting and end war in Yemen with the Iranian-backed Houthi group.
The initiative includes an inclusive nationwide ceasefire directly monitored by the UN, the Saudi foreign minister said.
In addition, blockade imposed by the Arab coalition on Hodeida port would be abated, Faisal Bin Farhan added. In return, the port's tax revenues would be deposited into a joint account at the Central Bank of Yemen.
The Saudi-led coalition would also allow for Sana'a airport to be reopened for limited number of direct regional and international destinations, the Saudi FM said.
Under the initiative, political negotiations would be resumed to put an end to the 6-year-old war in Yemen, he added, reiterating the Kingdom's rejection of Tehran's interference in Yemen.
The Saudi diplomat called on the Yemeni official government and the Houthi group to accept the initiative, as ceasefire will start once the Houthis agree.
The group quickly declared its rejection to the Saudi initiative, which included nothing new, according to the Houthi spokesman.
On Sunday, the Houthi deputy foreign minister said his group is willing to stop the war and make peace, but there should be "international will, real initiative and acceptable vision for peace."
The real solution lies in a cessation of air raids on Sana'a and other areas under Houthi control, Hussein al-Ezzi added.
