Government forces in Marib

MARIB (Debriefer)--Dozens of Houthi fighters, including a field leader, were killed in raging battles with the forces of Yemen's internationally recognised government in Marib province on Friday.

Battles intensified in the western areas of Al-Makhdarah and Al-Mashjah after the government forces attacked Houthi positions in the area of Malbousah to cut off Houthi supply lines, military sources said.

The government forces laid an ambush in Al-Mashjah, killing more than 20 Houthis including leader Mohammed Al-Radhi Gharbi, the sources said, adding that Houthi vehicles and equipment were destroyed in the fighting.

A Saudi-led coalition supporting the government struck Houthi positions and forces in western Marib, according to the sources.

On Thursday, at least 50 Houthi fighters were killed and others injured in attacks by the government forces and Saudi-led airstrikes in Al-Mashjah, the government said.

The Houthis launched in February A bloody offensive to seize the oil-rich Marib, which is considered the main stronghold of the government forces.
