Riyadh (Debriefer) - The Saudi-led coalition forces have thwarted a huge attack launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi group against the Kingdom, the Arab coalition command said Saturday.
The air defenses intercepted 7 booby-trapped drones by which the Houthi group tried to target the Saudi southern area, the coalition added in an official statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
"The interception took place successfully in Yemeni skies, and the hostile act was fended off," according to SPA.
"The Houthi deliberate, systematic hostile attempts represent war crimes, and we take operational measures to protect civilians from hostile attacks," the statement added.
This is the second attack carried out by the Houthi group against Saudi targets in few hours.
Earlier on Saturday, the Houthis said they targeted an airbase in the Saudi southern part with drone, but the Saudi-led coalition said its troops intercepted and destroyed the plane.
The Houthi air force accurately hit the King Khaled Airbase in the Saudi southern city of Khamis Mushait, spokesman for the group said in a brief statement, using Qasif-K2 drone.
The offensive comes two days after a Houthi senior official vowed to "remove the Saudi regime and its supporters, if it doesn't stop aggression and blockade on Yemen."
The Houthis launched nearly 128 drone attacks and fired 31 ballistic missiles at Saudi lands since the beginning of this year until mid-June, the UN Human Rights Commission said Friday.
