Aden (Debriefer) - Unknown armed men assassinated a Yemeni religious leader on Thursday in the southern port city of Aden.
The gunmen shot dead Sheikh Soroor Ali Abdullah al-Yafiei on his way back home after Fajr (dawn) Prayers, local sources said.
The armed men left the scene after their crime, leaving the man dead body, the sources added.
Aden, the Yemeni interim capital that has been under the Southern Transitional Council (STC) since August 2019, widely sees insecurity.
There is a deep security problem in Aden, interior minister in the Yemeni official government said Wednesday, attributing the situation to weak in security system that led to security infiltrations and an increase in assassinations.
The lack of decision unified under one authority, with security powers overlapped among many bodies, is to blame for the chaos and evident insecurity, General Ibrahim Haidan added.
The interior minister accused the Emirati-backed STC of "confusing the scene and obstructing the power-sharing government's work for unknown reasons."
