Mahara (Debriefer) The Yemeni security forces have foiled smuggling tens of antitank missiles in the eastern governorate of Mahara bordering the Sultanate of Oman.
Security forces at Shahin crossing, at Yemeni-Omani borders, seized 54 thermal missiles hidden inside electric generators, security source said, asking anonymity for not authorized to talk with media.
The cargo was smuggled on a large lorry heading from Omani lands, the source added, noting that the missiles were thought to be en route to the Iranian-backed Houthi group, with control of large swaths of Yemeni northern and western areas.
Mahara security authorities confiscated all the seized items, including the truck itself, and began probes to find out the destination and bodies involved, he said.
No official statement has immediately been released by authorities on the incident.
Yemeni official government security authorities had already announced the seizure of smuggled arms, including parts of drones and military telecom devices, during the last two years.
UN reports repeatedly talk about smugglings of weapons and military equipment aimed at the Houthi group via Yemeni-Omani borders.
