Shabwa (Debriefer) A military leader of the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council was killed on Friday evening when his convey was targeted with an explosion in the Yemeni southeastern governorate of Shabwa.
Armed men detonated an explosive device (already planted in vehicle) on the main road in Saeed district targeting commander of the 2nd battalion in the Shabwa Defense Forces-affiliated First Brigade, local sources said.
The blast left Major Salem al-Jabouani and two of his bodyguards killed and three others seriously injured, the sources added.
After the blast, a specialized team defused another explosive device laid at the western gateway of Ataq city, Shabwa Defense Forces said in a statement, without further details.
Last September, one soldier was killed and eight others were injured in a blast that targeted a military vehicle of the 2nd Brigade west Ataq city, Shabwa provincial capital.
