Sana'a (Debriefer) Saudi Arabia and Israel had tried to obstruct southern Yemen's independence from the British colonialism in the 1960s, deputy of the Houthi-run military morale department said on Saturday.
The attempt was aimed to establish a "foothold for the Israeli enemy in Yemen's strategic ports and other maritime sites in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea and Bab al-Mandeb," Abdullah Bin Amir added in a speech to the 55th anniversary of independence.
Israel called on Britain to quit withdrawal from southern Yemen or to retain military bases in Aden and islands, the Houthi official claimed.
The British representative came along with Kamal Adham, an advisor to King Faisal, who called for southern Yemen be handed to Riyadh, unless Aden-based military bases and Yemeni islands are not retained, he added.
