Local and military sources confirmed that armed tribal groups in Bani Ma'ili in the central Yemeni province of Marib, kidnaped a brigadier general in the Yemeni army and his son and three others in Thursday.
The gunmen intercepted the commander of the 7th Brigade Presidential Guard of the 5th Military Region Brig. Gen. Mohammed Wahhan, and his son Salah and three of his companions in Bani Ma'ili area of the Damashqa tribe, a branch of the Obeida tribe in Marb province.
The local source told Debriefer news agency the armed tribesmen kidnapped the military commander in order to pressure the authorities to release tribal detainees in the authorities of Marib province, which is controlled by forces of the internationally recognized government of Yemen, but loyal to the Islah Party (the Muslim Brotherhood branch in Yemen).
The security forces in Marib arrested some members of the tribe of Damasqa during events in the province last week, and refuses to release them, accusing them of participating in acts of sabotage, according the source.
Yemen has been devastated by a five-year armed conflict between the government backed by a Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis. The conflict has caused the world's largest humanitarian crisis.
