Iran's navy on Thursday sent Khark helicopter carrier and Sabalan destroyer to the Gulf of Aden amid raging battles between the Yemeni army backed by the Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-backed Houthi forces over the port city of Hodeidah.
The warships have resumed their mission in the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean and Bab El-Mandab strait within the 54th fleet, Iranian media reported, quoting navy officials.
A week ago, the internationally recognized government of Yemen and the Saudi-led coalition launched an offensive to recapture Hodeidah in western Yemen from the Iran-backed Houthi fighters.
They are accusing the Houthis of using the seaport for smuggling Iranian weapons including ballistic missiles and obstructing the flow of humanitarian aid, an accusation the Houthis deny.
The Houthis have lost the Hodeidah airport and several districts in the city to the pro-government forces, but are still controlling the seaport.
The coalition has been fighting the Houthis to restore the government since March 2015.
Battles are also raging on the border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia and other front lines in Yemen including Taiz, Saada, Bayda, Jawf and Sanaa.
