The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces seized Today, Saturday, billions of Yemeni riyals from the southern port of Aden.
Government sources said that forces of the STC stormed the container port in the city of Aden and looted seven containers full of banknotes in the local currency.
Local and banking sources in Aden said that the money is from the currency printed abroad and arrived in the port of Aden several days ago and it belongs to the Central Bank of Yemen (YCB).
"The money was transferred to the Jabal Hadid camp in the Khor Maksar region of the Transitional Council.", sources added
In early January, the forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized four containers, including 18 billion Yemeni riyals.
Nizar Haitham, the council’s spokesman, said at the time that their reservations about the money came to avoid handing them over to what he described as the “corruption group” in the Yemeni government, indicating that they would hand over that money to the Saudi forces in Aden.
On April 26, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared a state of emergency and self-rule for the southern governorates, was met with regional and international rejection.
