BAYDA (Debriefer)--More than 60 Houthi fighters have been killed and tens of others wounded in battles with the government forces and Saudi-led airstrikes in Bayda province in central Yemen in the past two days, a government military officer said on Thursday.
Chief of the Bayda military command, Brig. Gen. Abdulrab Al-Asbahi, said the government forces backed by popular resistance fighters carried out military operations against Houthi positions in all warfronts in the district of Qaniyah. The operations came within a war of attrition against the Houthis who have been trapped in mountains and fields of the district, he said.
Houthis' losses and failure to advance made them fabricate fake victories against Al-Qaeda and Daesh in the province, he added.
A Saudi-led coalition has been fighting the Houthis in support of the internationally recognised government since 2015.
More recently, Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Sari'a, revealed the details of what he said was a massive military operation against Takfiri groups in Bayda.
More than 250 Al-Qaeda and Daesh fighters were killed, wounded and arrested during the operation, he said, adding that the Houthi forces took over the main stronghold of the two terrorist groups, Yakla in west of Bayda, and the district of Wald Rabi'a.
The government said the Houthi talk about fight against terror and capture of Al-Qaeda and Daesh stronghold was an exposed game and a desperate attempt by the Houthi Group to deny its links with other terrorist groups in the country.
