ADEN (Debriefer)--Two members of Yemen's Parliament have revealed they have got information the United Arab Emirates is building two military bases on Socotra archipelago in a breach of the country's sovereignty. They demanded the government to answer questions about the UAE actions and reveal measures that have been or would be taken.
Independent MP Ali Al-Mamari and Islah MP Ali Ashal sent a letter to the speaker of Parliament asking him to get a written clarification from prime minister Maeen Abdulmalik regarding military bases the UAE is constructing in eastern and western parts of Socotra without permission or knowledge of the government.
We have also got information that military officers from different nationalities have arrived in Socotra without visas or entries approved by the Yemeni authorities, they said on Monday.
The UAE is a member state in a Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen since 2015.
It is supporting southern separatists, now under the umbrella of the southern transitional council. The council forces have taken control of the interim capital Aden and Socotra with UAE military and political support.
Lately reports said a delegation of UAE and Israeli military officers visited Socotra within a plan to build spy bases.
Reports also said the UAE has replaced local internet and telecommunications providers with UAE companies and that it is now installing 8 telecommunications towers in the archipelago.
