Jawf (Debriefer) - The Yemeni northern governorate of Jawf on Sunday saw fiercely renewed battles pitting the Yemeni government troops and armed tribesmen against Houthi fighters.
The hostilities were sparked by Houthi attack on national army sites, to the east of Jawf, the Yemeni defense ministry-run september.net quoted a field commander as saying.
"Houthi gunmen launched an attack from three axes on army's sites in Jadafir front," Colonel Mohammed al-Hajji said.
Government troops foiled the attack in a battle that left tens of Houthis killed, injured and captured, he added, as the others were forced to retreat.
Earlier, the national army claimed thwarting a Houthi offensive in al-Thohra and al-Qoaef fronts in Barat al-Inan district north Jawf.
With support from Arab coalition warplanes, the army inflicted gross human and ordnance to the Iranian-backed Houthi group, the army said.
