Abyan (Debriefer) 24 militants have been killed in clashes pitting the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces against al-Qaeda in the Yemeni southern governorate of Abyan, security sources said on Sunday.
The counterterrorism military campaign also left 32 soldiers killed and 40 others injured during the last few days, the sources added.
The Emirati-backed STC forces on Saturday and Sunday launched the 4th stage of counterterrorism campaign aimed to derive al-Qaeda militants out of the whole governorate, Xinhua quoted security sources as saying.
Qaeda militants were expelled from four areas, the sources added, after weeks of fierce fighting, as the pro-government forces keep on their operations against the terrorist group in other southern provinces.
