A senior Yemeni army commander loyal to Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi survived an assassination attempt on Sunday in Taiz province in southwestern Yemen, less than 24 hours after an assassination attempt that killed another commander in the same force in the province .
A security source told "Debriefer" news agency that the Brigadier General Abdul Rahman al-Shamsani, commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade survived an assassination attempt by armed gunfire that intercepted his convoy at a point belonging to the 35 armored Brigade in the city of al-Nashmah south of Taiz.
The source confirmed that , four soldiers of Brigadier General Abdel Rahman al-Shamsani were injured.
On Saturday, gunmen opened the fire at the convoy of the commander of the brigade 35 Armored, Brigadier General Adnan Al-Hammadi, who leads direct clashes with the armed factions of the Islah Party (the Muslim Brotherhood branch in Yemen), while his convoy was passing through the al-Ma'afer District Sunday market southwestern Taiz.
A source in the field told "Debriefer) news agency that the guard of Brigadier Hammadi, close to the Nasserite Party, responded to the attack and succeeded in arresting two of the perpetrators before escaping, pointing out that the investigations are still ongoing with the two elements, and did not disclose any source in the armored brigade 35 other information.
Since the conflict expanded to the province in late 2015, the province has been controlled by two dominant Islamist groups, the UAE-backed Salafists and the Islah Party. Both groups are receiving support from and fighting the Houthis alongside the internationally recognised government. Their fighters have joined military brigades.
