The US has carried out 18 air strikes against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, AQAP, in Yemen this year so far, the Long War Journal reported on Thursday, quoting an officer from the Central Command.
The strikes focused on the provinces of Bayda, 8, Hadramout, 8, and Shabwa, 2, and took place in February, March, April and May, Major Josh T. Jacques told the Journal.
The US has increased airstrikes in Hadramout where AQAP operated militant training camps, Jacques told the Journal, adding that the camps were targeted in April.
In January, it carried out a ground operation in Bayda in which a navy SEAL died and 25 civilians including children and old people were killed and injured.
Last year, the US carried out 131 air strikes against Al-Qaeda and ISIS in the country, mostly in Bayda and Marib provinces.
In 2016, 44 strikes were reported.
Hundreds of Yemeni innocents have been killed and injured in the strikes, rights organizations have said.
