At Thursday meeting in Muscat, the Russian President's envoy for Mideast and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Houthi delegation led by spokesman Mohamed Abdul Salam stressed the need for accelerated, inclusive political settlement to end conflict in Yemen.

The meeting built on Houthi delegation's visit to Moscow last month in terms of the UN-sponsored political settlement in Yemen and developments in the region, Houthi spokesman said in a release.

Yemen's war has entered stages more complicated for the country and the region, and its continuation would further worsen situations, the meeting said, highlighting the need for accelerating the inclusive political settlement, according to the release.

At his meeting with Houthi late last July in Moscow, Bogdanov said his country had begun pressing for the Russian view to make peace in the Gulf and Yemen.

Yemen has been racked by a 4-year bloody conflict between the internationally-recognized Yemeni government's forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who ousted the government in 2014.

Yemen's war has left tens of thousands killed, hundreds of thousands injured, and 3 million displaced, triggering what the UN calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with most of the population in need for a type of humanitarian aid and immediate protection, including 14 million people risking famine and some 1.8 million children suffering malnutrition.

Parties to the 4-year war in Yemen, after 8-day peace talks in Sweden, reached on the 13th of last December an agreement providing for ceasefire in Hodeida and redeployment of both sides' forces, exchanging prisoners and alleviating blockade imposed by Houthis on Taiz.

But none of this has taken place so far, with both sides trading blames for trying to thwart the deal.
