Qaeda leading militant ambushed to death in Yemen's Abyan

Abyan (Debriefer) - A leader of al-Qaeda was kill on Saturday in Abyan, a source at the local authority said, after gunmen opened fire at the militant in the Yemeni southern governorate.

Armed men waited in ambush for Abu Salem al-Walidi (called Abu Amir) while the Qaeda leader was driving his car in al-Khadira area, to the northeast of Abyan, the source added.

The al-Qaeda former financial officer in Abyan was killed at once in the ambush, according to the source.

On 6 December 2017, al-Walidi was arrested in a campaign by the Security Belt forces that targeted Qaeda hideouts between the two districts of Modeah and al-Mahfad in Abyan, but he was released later, the source said.

The al-Qaeda militants spread in the central districts of Abyan.
